State Duma official offers deal with Kiev for water to Crimea

SIMFEROPOL, Aug 13 (PRIME) -- The issue of water supply to Crimea must be depoliticized and regulated by an agreement between Moscow and Kiev, Deputy of the State Duma, Russian parliament’s lower chamber, for Crimea Mikhail Sheremet said late Monday.

“We need to start the negotiations and solve the issue basing on mutually beneficial positions, by signing an intergovernmental agreement. We hope for common sense of new President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky who will restart water supply to Crimea allowing to develop agriculture of the Kherson part of Ukraine, which neighbors Crimea and which is crossed by a significant part of the North Crimean Canal,” the deputy said.

Ukraine used to satisfy 85% of Crimea’s demand for fresh water before Crimea’s accession to Russia.
